I love whipped cream as a topping on just about anything. I like to give the cream a slight vanilla flavor and just a hint of sweetness. I know that the fat in heavy whipping cream is something to watch out for, but I believe any Real Whole Food is generally healthy in moderation.
My tip is to use vanilla to flavor the cream or any other flavor you like, then drastically reduce the amount of sugar from what is normally used in homemade whipped cream. Sometimes I leave out the sugar completely. Whipped cream is so luscious, it doesn’t even need sugar a lot of the time. Always make sure your heavy whipping cream has only one ingredient, cream.
THE LUSCIOUS REAL FOOD INGREDIENTS
1 Pint of Heavy Whipping Cream (Check the Ingredient List for Cream Only)
1 Teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
2 Teaspoons Organic Cane Sugar
Pour the heavy whipping cream, the vanilla and the sugar into a bowl. Use either a power hand mixer, a manual hand egg beater or a stand mixer and whip the cream until it forms stiff peaks.
According to Food Networks Healthy Eats, Cream: Good or Bad?, “Modest portions of a high-fat option like cream can have a place in a healthy eating plan. Fat helps add satisfying flavor and texture to your favorite dishes.”
