I grew up on the Oregon coast in a small beach community. Memorial Day Weekend is the start of the summer season and when the town begins to magically transform. The population drastically increases and remains that way for the next three months. The businesses in town look forward to this weekend all winter long and are dedicated to making the season special for all the visitors who arrive. The familiar signs of summer begin to appear all over the county.
Reveal: This is the beach town my fiction inspired by real life novel is based on.
THERE IS ALMOST NOTHING MORE SPECTACULAR THAN A SUMMER SUNSET AT THE BEACH!
As I have grown older and now live an hour away from the coast, I still think about the small town lifestyle. But the true meaning of the Memorial Day Weekend has become much more important to me.
Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who have died in service of the United States of America.
REMEMBER THE SOULS SACRIFICED FOR OUR FREEDOM AND HONOR THEM!
