One of my favorite ways to prepare oatmeal is this simple and convenient “Refrigerator or Overnight” version. This easy style is so amazing I can’t believe it took me so long to discover it and try it. No more waiting 20 minutes for my morning breakfast to cook. The flavor combinations are endless and it’s ready when I am!
You can eat it warm or cold, but I thoroughly enjoy it cold. This particular good for you Easy Real Food Recipe is especially healthy. The oats, the dried plums, the walnuts and the plain yogurt are all considered super foods and the pure maple syrup is a wonderful unrefined natural sweetener that adds that rich maple flavor. I recommend giving refrigerator oatmeal a try.
THE SUPER HEALTHY REAL FOOD INGREDIENTS
First, whisk the milk and yogurt together until well combined. Second, chop the dried plums into small bite-sized pieces. Make sure to watch for unwanted ingredients when purchasing your dried plums. Third, add the oatmeal and milk and yogurt mixture to a glass container with a lid or a mug or a bowl and stir together until the oatmeal is completely saturated.
Last, layer the chopped raw walnuts over the oatmeal yogurt blend and then layer the dried plum pieces over the walnuts.
Cover the glass container or mug or bowl, and then place it in the refrigerator overnight or for a minimum of 4 hours. In the morning or after 4 hours, remove from the fridge, pour the maple syrup over the oatmeal mixture and sprinkle with the cinnamon. Stir all the ingredients together until they are combined.
Either eat the oatmeal cold or warm it up in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Enjoy your breakfast or snack as is or add a little more milk or cream to the oatmeal depending on the consistency you like.
Dried plums, also known as prunes, are an amazing Real Food with an abundance of health benefits. They are high in fiber, potassium, key vitamins and are a good source of iron. I look for the “Sorbate Free” version. The ingredients should be dried plums only.
