I love the Holiday Season, but now that it’s over I’m definitely breathing a sigh of relief. After a month or so of too many sweets, more chocolate than normal, a little too much of this and a little too much of that, all I can say is Ugh!
This afternoon I was thinking I just want to drink something that will wash away some of the heaviness and I remembered the bag of Meyer Lemons I bought the other day. I love lemons, but I’ve never tried Meyer Lemons until today. I was told they’re a cross between a real lemon and a tangerine, two of my favorite citrus fruits. The first thing I decided to make with them is this jazzed up version of a lemon water drink.
THE JAZZY REAL FOOD INGREDIENTS
There’s a lot of information touting the benefits of drinking a glass of lemon water daily the first thing in the morning and I agree with that. But, today I wanted to dress it up a little for an afternoon beverage and decided to use one of the Meyer Lemons, some sparkling mineral water and a little local honey. I like to make even the simplest recipe special sometimes.
Lemons have a number of health benefits, such as assisting your immune system and providing an antioxidant boost as well as boosting your mood, to increasing alkalinity and promoting good digestion. Surprisingly, they are also said to benefit acid reflux.
The first step in preparing the drink is to zest about half of one lemon and set it aside.
Then, cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice into a decorative glass, just for fun. Add some honey to the juice and patiently stir until it dissolves. Add the zest to the glass and stir again.
Now pour in some sparkling mineral water and stir once more, then add a colorful straw. I always use a straw when drinking lemon water, because I’ve read the acid can soften your tooth enamel.
Some describe the Meyer Lemon as sweet, but for me it is tart, with a hint of orange and the honey goes with it perfectly. Just like regular lemons though, I find the drink extremely refreshing and hydrating, so I hope you enjoy it too.
Lemons provides electrolytes and nutrition, such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, folate, fiber, limonene, and antioxidants. They are also said to promote the elimination of toxins, which makes this jazzed up version of the lemon water drink not only tasty, but very healthy.
Meyer Lemon Sparkling Water Drink with a Little Honey
Prep Time: 5 Minutes Cook Time: No Cooking Yield: 1 Serving
- 1 Meyer Lemon, Washed and Cleaned (A Regular Lemon Can be Substituted)
- 6 Ounces Mineral Water (I Use San Pellegrino Just Because I Like It)
- 1 Teaspoon Honey (Local is Preferred)
- Zest about half of one lemon and set it aside.
- Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice into a decorative glass.
- Add the honey to the juice and patiently stir until it dissolves.
- Add the zest to the glass and stir again.
- Pour in the sparkling mineral water and stir once more.
- Add a colorful straw and enjoy.
