Pomegranate Fruit Real Food

Pomegranates, the Juicy Ruby Red Jeweled Winter Fruit

We’re familiar with apples, pears and citrus as winter fruits, but Real Food pomegranates are in that group too. I remember as a little girl getting a pomegranate occasionally as a special treat, since they were expensive, and having a great time working for every juicy jeweled seed.

I recently read that pomegranates are one of the healthiest fruits on earth with their range of beneficial plant compounds. Whether you enjoy the sweet tart seeds, called arils, as a refreshing fresh snack or sip on some pomegranate juice, you’ll be doing your body a favor. Make sure it’s pure pomegranate juice though, no sugar added or other juice fillers.

Pomegranates are loaded with fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K and potassium. They also have powerful antioxidant levels and impressive anti-inflammatory properties. The healthy nutrients in this gorgeous fruit are said to benefit our digestion, our memory, our heart and may help reduce the risk of many common diseases.

Some of my favorite pomegranate recipes include using the seeds or juice in home-baked breads, muffins, scones, cookies, cakes, ice cream or jam. Also, add the seeds to salads and main dishes or reduce the juice for a glaze or a sauce or use it in a refreshing beverage.

The juice is available any time of year, but I recommend enjoying the wholesome juicy seeds of a fresh pomegranate before the season ends!

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” Galatians 6:9, NLT
