My husband and I eat rich creamy avocados multiple times each week. It’s incredible to me how many different ways we’ve found to use them, such as a topping on salads or soups or chili, on a sandwich or in a wrap, as a spread on toast, as guacamole or a dip for chips, in smoothies or even in baking as a replacement for the butter or oil. They’re often used as a beauty treatment too!
The most popular type is the Hass avocado or as it’s often called, the “alligator pear.” This buttery versatile fruit is nutrient rich and contains a wide variety of vitamins and minerals. They’re high in vitamin K, vitamin C, vitamin B5, vitamin B6 and vitamin E. They provide lutein, beta-carotene, and omega-3 fatty acids. They’re also cholesterol and sodium free and are low in saturated fat.
Avocados are higher in potassium than bananas, a required electrolyte, are loaded with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, are high in fiber, which is great for healthy metabolism and digestion, and are rich in powerful antioxidants.
They’re also delicious and easy to enjoy in your everyday diet. Avocados store very well for weeks in the refrigerator. Just let them reach the desired ripeness and put them in the fridge, where you’ll always have one on hand. With all this good news, feel free to enjoy avocados often!
