From breakfast to desserts to main dishes to delicious healthy snacks, bananas are an incredibly versatile fruit and are available all year round. They are one of the most inexpensive fruits you can buy and are a powerhouse packed full of the daily nutritional requirements we need.
Ripe bananas are perfect for cakes, muffins, cookies and puddings, while frozen bananas are perfect for smoothies. Or dry them and make your own banana chips. Or grab a banana, throw it in your bag and take it with you for a quick easy energy and nutrient boost on the run.
They are a great source of healthy filling fiber, potassium, magnesium, vitamin B6, vitamin C, antioxidants and phytonutrients. They are also said to be great for your heart and your digestive health. I even read they can be good for your mood!
Bananas are one of my favorite fruits, but I enjoy them in moderation, since they contain a relatively high amount of sugar. The sugar is great for an energy lift, but as I have always said, “Balance is everything.” I often use bananas as a replacement for some of the sugar required in baking because of their sugar level, especially when they’re ripe.
