Is “Earthing” or “Grounding” a Real Thing?

In the search for more information to improve my health, I’ve encountered a topic that’s gaining in popularity called “Earthing” or “Grounding.” Earthing is described as “Putting Your Body in Direct Contact With the Earth.” It’s the practice of standing directly on the ground in bare feet or walking in the forest. It sounds very rational to me, so I want to share some of what I’ve learned so far.

Earthing for Health

Dr. Andrew Weil said, “A handful of small studies have found that grounding appears to provide some general health benefits, such as better sleep, less pain, reduced stress and tension, and better immune function compared to study participants who weren’t grounded. One study suggested that earthing eliminates the potentially harmful effects of the electromagnetic fields given off by all the electronic devices that surround us.

Supposedly, electrons drawn into the body from the earth neutralize damaging free radicals and by extension reduce disease-related chronic or acute inflammation. We’ll need additional studies of better design and with more participants before we can know whether it is really possible to derive health benefits from earthing.” Andrew Weil, M.D.

I read that the brain, heartbeat and neurotransmitter activity all rely on electrical signals, so when our electricity if off, certain aspects of our health can be too. Also, that the electrical force coming from the earth is able to help lower inflammation and fight free radicals.

I don’t scientifically know about all that, however what I do know is “Earthing” or “Grounding” outside is free and it makes me feel better. I know there are a lot of products sold for Earthing indoors, but I’ll just stick to the natural activities outdoors.

Earthing for Health

Anytime we can be outside and allow the body to rebalance its electric charges it’s a good thing. I know when I walk through the forest a few blocks from our condo the energy feels completely different, it’s like walking into a different world. My Mom loved having her hands in the soil, so I’m sure she must have felt it too. She would have loved walking with me through my little forest.

“For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.” John 5:4, KJV

  1. Your little forest looks so inviting! The air is so different in nature and the sounds are so lovely….birds and the wind rustling. I don’t have the woods, but I live close to the beach and I know I feel great after a walk there!

    1. It so wonderful to hear from you again. It sounds like life is good in Prineville. Barbara is near there for the summer. They live in Arizona now, but bring their 5th wheel around when it get too hot in Mesa. Thank you so much for the invitation, but I can’t travel for now. There are issues from the first surgery I had last August 5th that prevent me from going very far away from home. Would you be interested in a phone conversation? Just let me know. Great to hear from you!!
